Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Announcing Call for Blue Sky Papers Track at HyperText 2022

February 9th, 2022 / in Announcements, Blue Sky, call for papers, CCC / by Maddy Hunter

The 33rd ACM Conference on Hypertext and Social Media will be held in Barcelona, Spain June 28 – July 1, 2022. The conference focuses on high quality research on hypertext theory, systems and applications. Research concerns all aspects of hypertext ranging from social media, semantic web, dynamic and computed hypertext and hypermedia as well as narrative systems and applications.

ACM’s HT Conference 2022 is pleased to partner with the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) to initiate a new Blue Sky paper track that emphasizes innovative, visionary, and high-impact contributions. This track solicits papers relevant to Hypertext and Social Media content that go beyond the usual research paper to present new visions that stimulate the community to pursue innovative new research directions. They may challenge existing assumptions and methodologies, or propose new applications or theories. The papers are encouraged to present high-risk controversial ideas. Submitted papers are expected to represent deep reflection, to argue rigorously, and to present ideas from a high-level synthetic viewpoint (e.g., multidisciplinary, based on multiple methodologies). Please see the call for papers below (originally posted on the HT ’22 Conference website):

In cooperation with the Computing Community Consortium (CCC), HyperText (HT) invites submissions to a special “Blue Sky Ideas” track. The emphasis of this track will be on visionary ideas, long term challenges, and opportunities for highlighting new research directions for the HT community. Research and topics that are outside of the current mainstream topics of the field are welcome.

Submissions will be judged on the extent to which they expand the possibilities and horizons of the field or challenge existing assumptions prevalent in the field.

Submission guidelines

Submissions to this track should follow the same formatting guidelines as submissions to the research track but are limited to at most four (4) pages in length (including references) for both submission and final publication (more details here). Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and presented at the conference as full oral presentations.

To encourage researchers to present truly visionary concepts, the CCC is offering prizes for up to three top papers in this special track:

  • First prize $1000
  • Second prize $750
  • Third prize $500

Note that paper submissions in this track will not receive full-fledged reviews as in the other tracks at HT. All submissions however will be screened to ensure that they meet the required criteria of being visionary in nature.

A committee of 5-6 experts will adjudicate the top-3 accepted submissions to this track and nominate them for awards sponsored by CCC. The submissions are managed electronically only through the EasyChair paper submission site and are required on or before the deadline listed below.
