Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

NSF Seeks Active U.S. PIs to Participate in their Building Collaborations: U.S. – India Workshop

February 21st, 2022 / in Announcements, NSF, resources / by Maddy Hunter

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is calling for U.S. PIs with an active NSF award  to apply for their Building Collaborations: U.S. – India Workshop. To be held virtually on March 15th and March 22nd from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM US Eastern Time, the workshop seeks to support research collaborations via a joint U.S.-India funding opportunity. Applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis through March 1, 2022.

The joint funding opportunity is supported by nine programs in the NSF’s Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) and Directorate for Engineering (ENG) and six Indian Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) to provide supplemental funding for collaborative projects in research areas such as AI, data science, embedded systems, edge computing, computer vision, IoT, and controls and application areas like agriculture, health, climate, robotics, smart cities, and future manufacturing.  See NSF 22-040 for more details.

The TIHs are part of a larger $430M investment by India’s Department of Science and Technology’s National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems. They are coordinated by top academic institutes and prioritize partnership with industry to act as an engine of growth that would benefit national initiatives in health, education, energy, environment, agriculture, strategic security, and industrial sectors, Industry 4.0, SMART Cities, and Sustainable Development Goals. Learn about individual participating TIHs through their slide shows on the Building Collaborations website.

If you already have an Indian research partner in mind, encourage them to explore which of these hubs they might submit a proposal to, and coordinate your proposal submissions.

You can apply here. Please be prepared to answer questions about your active NSF grant, your research expertise, the top three TIHs you would like to interact with during the workshop, and a brief description of potential areas for collaboration. Participation will be limited to ensure we create a venue for idea sharing and the type of partnership building which could lead to coordinated proposal submissions.
