Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is hosting its highly anticipated Computing Futures Symposium in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., on May 15-16, 2025. This isn’t just another conference; it’s a dynamic forum where the architects of our digital future – leading researchers in computing, influential figures from federal agencies, and insightful voices from civil society – will converge to explore the cutting edge of computing research and its transformative power.

The symposium features a series of panel discussions and keynote addresses from prominent experts across a spectrum of computing disciplines, including the future of robotics and autonomy, the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, the intersection of computing and healthcare, and the critical domain of cybersecurity. Additionally, the event will shine a spotlight on the fresh perspectives and groundbreaking work of rising stars in the field through a dedicated poster session.

This year’s esteemed keynote speakers include:

  • Lisa Amini, Director of IBM Research Cambridge and Data & AI Platforms, whose innovative research is bridging the gap between fundamental AI research and real-world applications, particularly in areas like AI automation and intelligent systems.
  • William “Bill” Dally, Chief Scientist and Senior Vice President of Research at NVIDIA, whose revolutionary work in architecture of parallel computers and interconnection networks fuels the AI and high-performance breakthroughs we see today.
  • Elizabeth “Beth” Mynatt, Dean of the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, whose human-centered approach to computing is creating novel and accessible technologies that address critical societal needs, particularly in the sectors of healthcare and aging in place.

More than just a showcase of current achievements, the CCC Computing Futures Symposium acts as a crucial platform for identifying the big, bold research questions that will define the future of our digital world. Computing research holds the key to unlocking solutions for pressing national challenges, accelerating the pace of scientific discovery, bolstering our national security, revolutionizing industrial efficiency, and fueling robust economic growth. We look forward to providing an opportunity for participants to engage in focused discussions on these vital topics.

The panels and keynote addresses will be recorded and published to CRA’s Youtube channel following the symposium, so keep an eye out for an announcement in the coming weeks.
