Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Call for Input: Shaping the Future of AI Research in the United States

May 15th, 2025 / in AI, Announcements, CCC, Requests for Information / by Catherine Gill

The Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) National Coordination Office (NCO), on behalf of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), has issued a request for information (RFI) seeking input on the development of the 2025 National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Development (R&D) Strategic Plan. This is a crucial opportunity for the computing community to help shape the future of AI research in the United States.

The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) intends to submit a response to this RFI as a follow-up to our February response to the RFI on the Development of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan. We encourage members of the computing community to submit additional responses.

Why is this important?

The goal of this initiative is to ensure that the U.S. remains at the forefront of AI innovation. The strategic plan will focus on AI R&D that:

  • Drives innovation
  • Enhances economic and national security
  • Promotes human well-being
  • Maintains U.S. leadership in AI

Who should respond?

The NITRD NCO is looking for ideas from a wide range of stakeholders, including:

  • AI researchers
  • Industry leaders
  • Anyone with an interest in the future of AI

How can I respond?

Interested parties can submit comments online via Regulations.gov, identified by Docket ID No. NSF-2025-OGC-0001.

Important details:

  • Deadline: 11:59 p.m. (ET) on May 29, 2025
  • Length: Ideally two pages, but no more than 10 pages.
  • Requirement: Responses must include a statement confirming the content is suitable for public dissemination and government reuse.

This is your chance to contribute to a strategic plan that will guide AI research and development in the U.S. for years to come. Don’t miss this opportunity to make your voice heard!
