The following has been reposted from the CRA Bulletin. Today the Computing Research Association (CRA) released the first of more than a dozen planned white papers produced through its subcommittees, exploring areas and issues around computing research with the potential to address national priorities over the next four years. Called Quadrennial Papers, the white papers attempt to portray a broad picture of computing research detailing potential research directions, challenges, and recommendations for policymakers and the computing research community. The release of the 2020 Quadrennial Papers covers five thematic areas: Core Computer Science, Broad Computing, Socio-Technical Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Diversity & Education. CRA today released the first set of four […]
Computing Community Consortium Blog
The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

CRA Releases ‘2020 Quadrennial Papers’ Focused on Illuminating Computing Research Challenges and Opportunities for the Next Four Years
October 29th, 2020 / in Announcements, CCC, CRA, Privacy, research horizons, Research News / by Maddy HunterAnnouncing the 2020 Computing Innovation Fellows
September 14th, 2020 / in CIFellows, NSF / by Maddy HunterThis past spring, when hiring practices were rapidly changing due to COVID-19, the Computing Research Association (CRA) and its Computing Community Consortium (CCC) launched the CIFellows 2020 program, with strong support from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The program aims to provide a career-enhancing bridge experience for recent and soon-to-be Ph.D. graduates in computing. This effort was inspired by the CRA/CCC’s NSF-funded Computing Innovation Fellows Programs with cohorts starting 2009, 2010, and 2011, which funded a total of 127 fellows after the 2008 recession. Many people invested their time and talents to our CIFellows 2020 program, including co-principal investigators on the NSF grant that funded the program: Andrew P. Bernat […]

Computing Researchers Respond to COVID-19: Voxel51; A Means of Tracking Social Distancing
April 16th, 2020 / in COVID, Great Innovative Idea / by Maddy HunterContributions to this post were provided by the Voxel51 team. At the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) we know that everyone is dealing with a lot in these unprecedented times. We are continuing to work on behalf of the computing research community to catalyze research, but we also want to provide ways to help the community. This blog is from a series of posts about ways computing researchers are using computing to adapt and help in these times. We hope you find something that may help you, either now or in the future. Empty parks, X’s taped to the floor in check-out lines, virtual family holidays, these are all part of the new norm thanks to […]
Computing Researchers Respond to COVID-19: Decontaminating N95 Masks
April 8th, 2020 / in COVID / by Maddy HunterContributions to this post were provided by former CCC Council Member Kevin Fu from the University of Michigan. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused staggering resource shortages around the world. A lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) is forcing medical centers and first responders to reuse N95 masks. Targeting the scarcity of N95 masks for healthcare workers, former Computing Community Consortium (CCC) Council Member, Kevin Fu has joined the effort to address this global issue of PPE shortage. Fu is co-PI of the NSF Frontiers Trustworthy Health and Wellness project, founder and chief scientist of the Archimedes Center for Medical Device Security, and Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science […]
