Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Visioning Workshop Review: Supporting At-Risk Users Through Responsible Computing

November 14th, 2024 / in Announcements, CCC / by Petruce Jean-Charles

Did you know that LGBTQ+ youth face a higher risk of exposure to potentially harmful interactions on social media than their heterosexual peers? Exposure to such interactions has been linked to negative impacts on their mental health. Other “at-risk” users include individuals from marginalized communities such as survivors of abuse, people with disabilities, or those from low-income backgrounds. To address disproportionate digital harm to these individuals, CCC will be hosting a workshop on, “Support At-Risk Users Through Responsible Computing,” from December 9-10 in Washington, DC.  Technology has the power to connect, empower, and create opportunities, but for certain individuals and communities, it can also pose significant risks. Whether it’s online […]

Call for Participation: Combining AI and ORMS for Better Trustworthy Decision-Making

November 13th, 2024 / in AI, CCC / by Petruce Jean-Charles

The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is pleased to share a call for participation in the Combining AI and ORMS for Better Trustworthy Decision Making Bridge Program supported by AAAI and INFORMS. This Bridge Program is being organized by participants in our workshops on Artificial Intelligence/Operations Research (AI/OR).  In 2021, the idea for a series of three workshops arose to respond to the significant attention to AI from businesses, industries, and academic institutions. Researchers believe AI and OR are complementary and synergistic when used together to solve business and societal problems such as energy needs and climate change. Through these workshops both communities were able to develop a joint strategic vision […]
