We are excited and proud to pass on the news that former CCC Chair and long time Council member Gregory D. Hager was selected by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to serve as the Assistant Director (AD) of the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) starting June 3, 2024. Dr. Hager had been a long standing member of CCC: he was a CCC Council Member from 2010-2017, CCC Vice Chair from 2013-2014, and CCC Chair from 2014-2016. His leadership in CCC had a significant impact on the broader computing research community. Most recently, in 2022 CCC featured his research on the medical applications for AI and robotics […]
Computing Community Consortium Blog
The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Reminder: Join a Roundtable to Discuss the Next Grand Challenges in Computing
February 28th, 2024 / in Announcements / by Catherine GillThe Computing Community Consortium’s (CCC) Grand Challenges task force is engaging in a new visioning activity to identify the next grand challenges that will shape the future of our field. We’re seeking visionary thinkers and researchers to join us in this exciting exploration. These virtual roundtable discussions will aim to consider the whole of the field of computing in this context and ask what the new fundamentally “computing research” issues might be that could produce a new set of “Grand Challenges” for our field. In the way in which challenges around Health, Climate, Energy, Sustainability, and Agriculture draw those from many disciplines (including computing research) into their grand challenges, […]
Past, Present, and Future of Computing and Healthcare
February 22nd, 2024 / in Announcements, CCC, Healthcare / by Haley GriffinCCC has a long history of engaging in topics at the intersection of health and computing, from the Computing and Healthcare workshop in 2012, to the Aging in Place workshop in 2014, to the Sociotechnical Interventions for Health Disparity Reduction workshop in 2018. The outcomes of these workshops revealed how computing research has the ability to make the lives of healthcare personnel (HCP) and the broader public easier, safer, and more effective. While society is optimistic that computing tools can be great aids to HCP during times of crisis, they largely fell short in being effective during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. In September 2023, CCC held a timely workshop on […]
