The following entry is a special contribution to this blog from Douglas H. Fisher, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Vanderbilt University. This year Doug and Carla Gomes (Cornell University) are co-chairing the Computational Sustainability and Artificial Intelligence (AI) track at the Twenty-Seventh Conference on Artificial Intelligence on July 14-18, 2013 in Bellevue, Washington. In this entry, Doug highlights the upcoming Computing Community Consortium sponsored track. The Twenty-Seventh AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI-13) convenes next week in Bellevue, Washington. For the third consecutive year there will be a special track on Computational Sustainability, a nascent and growing field of computing that is concerned with the application of computer science […]
Computing Community Consortium Blog
The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

CCC Sponsoring Computational Sustainability Track at AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI-13)
July 12th, 2013 / in CCC / by Kenneth HinesCCC Sponsors Challenges and Visions Track at AAMAS 2013
May 30th, 2013 / in CCC, research horizons / by Kenneth HinesThe following is a special contribution to the blog from Jeff Rosenchein, Head of The Rachel and Selim Benin School of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In this entry, Jeff highlights the CCC sponsored Challenges and Visions track at the twelfth international conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems (AAMAS ’13) held in St. Paul, Minnesota earlier this month. The Challenges and Visions Track was a new track, initiated for the first time at AAMAS’13 under the sponsorship of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC), an organization established to push the U.S. computing research community to pursue a bold vision for computing research. The CCC awards […]
CCC Sponsoring Challenges and Visions Track at Robotics: Science and Systems (RSS) 2013 Conference
April 15th, 2013 / in CCC, research horizons / by Kenneth HinesThe CCC is sponsoring another in its series of “Challenges and Visions” tracks as a Robotics Challenges and Vision workshop at the 9th Robotics: Science and Systems conference June 24 – 28, 2013, Technische Universität Berlin. The Robotics: Science and Systems (RSS) conference has been a venue for presentation of breakthrough results in robotics since its inception in 2005. RSS is the most selective annual venue for timely publication of revolutionary theories and techniques in robotics, achieved through development of novel algorithms and systems. Proceedings of RSS are citable and published both by the MIT press and online. The RSS community comprises most of the top leaders in the field, from […]
Reminder: Call for White Papers on Mid-Scale Infrastructure Investments for Computing Research
April 11th, 2013 / in CCC, research horizons, resources / by Kenneth HinesAs we’ve previously blogged, The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is turning to the Computing Research community for their input on the needs and potential payoff for further investment in mid-scale infrastructure, investments over $4 million but under $100 million. Examples include GENI, PlanetLab, Orbit, FutureGrid, and Emulab, all of which have transformed computing. The CCC is looking to answer the following question. What sort of investment in mid-scale infrastructure can you envision that would drive computing forward? It is our intention to host a workshop where the white papers would be presented, and approach NSF and other funding agencies to act on the (pending) demand for mid-scale infrastructure research funding. White […]
CCC Sponsored Workshop on Extreme Scale Design Automation (ESDA)
February 28th, 2013 / in CCC / by Kenneth HinesThe following is a special contribution to this blog from Patrick H. Madden, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Binghamton University. In this blog entry Patrick highlights the CCC-sponsored visioning activity on Extreme Scale Design Automation; the first of a series of three workshops on the topic will be held next week. The CCC-sponsored Workshop for Extreme Scale Design Automation (ESDA) convenes Thursday and Friday of next week (March 7-8) at the University of Pittsburgh. A group of about 35 academic and industry participants, and many observers from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and elsewhere, will discuss a set of challenges facing the design automation research community. Over the past decade, the difficulty of […]
CCC Sponsored Workshop for Multidisciplinary Research for Online Education (MROE)
February 8th, 2013 / in CCC / by Kenneth HinesThe following is a special contribution to this blog from Douglas H. Fisher, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Computer Engineering at Vanderbilt University. In this blog entry, Doug highlights the CCC-sponsored visioning activity on Online Education, which will be held next week. The CCC-sponsored Workshop for Multidisciplinary Research for Online Education (MROE) convenes Monday and Tuesday of next week (February 11-12) at the Grand Hyatt in Washington D.C. An impressive group of about 70 academic and industry participants, and many observers from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and elsewhere, will explore and delineate computer science and multidisciplinary research agendas designed to improve formal and informal education. The workshop will build on CCC’s […]
