The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is charged with catalyzing and empowering the U.S. computing research community to articulate and advance major research directions for the field. To do so, the CCC needs truly visionary leaders — people with great ideas, sound judgment, and the willingness to work hard to see things to completion. Please help the computing community by nominating such people for the Council. Established in 2006 through a cooperative agreement between the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Computing Research Association (CRA) — representing over 220 North American academic departments, industrial research labs, and professional societies with computing research interests, the CCC provides a voice for the national computing research community, and facilitates the […]
Computing Community Consortium Blog
The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

January 4th, 2018 / in Announcements, CCC / by Helen WrightGreat Innovative Idea- Personalized Preference-based Service Selection and Recommendation
January 2nd, 2018 / in CCC, Great Innovative Idea / by Helen WrightThe following Great Innovative Idea is from Kenneth K. Fletcher, an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Fletcher presented his poster, A Method for Dealing with Data Sparsity and Cold-Start Limitations in Service Recommendation Using Personalized Preferences, at the CCC Symposium on Computing Research, October 23-24, 2017. The Idea The idea is to develop and improve on methods and algorithms that incorporate users’ preferences for service selection and recommendation. With the growing number of services (cloud, web, airline, etc) on the Internet having similar functionalities, it is now more challenging to select or recommend the best service(s) that meet(s) users’ needs. Rather than selecting or recommending services based only […]
Blue Sky Ideas Conference Track held at International Symposium on Robotics Research (ISRR) 2017
December 20th, 2017 / in Announcements, CCC, Research News / by Helen WrightContributions to the following blog were made by former CCC Chair Gregory Hager. The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) recently sponsored a Blue Sky Ideas Conference Track at the International Symposium on Robotics Research (ISRR) in Puerto Varas, Chile on December 11-14, 2017. The purpose was to encourage papers submissions that describe visionary ideas, long term challenges, and opportunities in research that are outside of the current mainstream topics of the field and which will provoke discussion or debate. The 15 submissions reflected the breadth of areas and interests in robotics. Organized into three sessions, the papers ranged from the basics of materials and control for new robot designs, to ideas […]

2017 ACM Fellows Announced
December 12th, 2017 / in Announcements, CCC, Research News / by Helen WrightThe Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has released their annual list of ACM Fellows. The 2017 ACM Fellows list recognizes 54 ACM members for their significant contributions to the development and application of computing in key computing fields including artificial intelligence, big data, computer architecture, computer graphics, high-performance computing, human-computer interaction, sensor networks, and wireless networking. To be selected as a Fellow is to join our most renowned member grade and an elite group that represents less than 1 percent of ACM’s overall membership, explains ACM President Vicki L. Hanson. The Fellows program allows us to shine a light on landmark contributions to computing, as well as the men and women whose hard work, dedication, […]
