Last week, the National Science Foundation (NSF) released an early version of their final report for their workshop on Sustainable Computing for Sustainability. One of CCC’s council members Chandra Krintz was on the steering committee, where she brought her expertise in fostering collaboration on computing foundations for sustainability and climate resilience to the workshop. According to Krintz, the committee was charged with designing the workshop, identifying key participants, reviewing participant submissions, and running the workshop in Washington DC this past April. “Together, workshop participants helped to identify new research, multidisciplinary collaboration, and investment opportunities for this increasingly important area of computing research. The event also helped grow the CCC LinkedIn […]
Computing Community Consortium Blog
The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

July 5th, 2024 / in CCC, climate / by Petruce Jean-CharlesIn another installment of CCC’s Weekly Computing News, we are sharing an exciting funding opportunity for climate change adaptation and mitigation. NSF, NEH and partner funding agencies announce the winners of the Canada-led 2023 International Joint Initiative for Research on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation competition On June 3, the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), along with several international funding agencies, announced the recipients of the International Joint Initiative for Research on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation. This initiative, managed by Canada’s New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF), awarded nearly $26 million to fund 11 collaborative research projects. NSF contributed approximately $6 million, […]
Virtual Registration Open for the NSF Workshop on Sustainable Computing for Sustainability
March 25th, 2024 / in Announcements, climate / by Catherine GillThe NSF Workshop on Sustainable Computing for Sustainability has just released a virtual registration link to attend the workshop remotely on April 16-17, 2024. This workshop, which the CCC’s own Chandra Krintz is on the steering committee for, seeks to identify open challenges in how to harness computing to tackle sustainability problems, and in ensuring that computing accounts for sustainability in its own development and operation. Due to space limitations, the workshop will follow a hybrid format with approximately 100 in-person attendees at the National Science Foundation’s headquarters in Alexandria, VA, and remote participation feasible through a zoom webinar. Please use this link to register to attend remotely. The deadline […]

Building Resilience to Climate Driven Extreme Events with Computing Innovations Report Released by the CCC
January 24th, 2023 / in Announcements, CCC, climate, NSF / by Catherine GillThe Computing Community Consortium (CCC) has submitted a community report to the National Science Foundation (NSF) for a new Convergence Accelerator track on the topic of “Building Resilience to Climate Driven Extreme Events with Computing Innovations”. The NSF’s Convergence Accelerator program, which was launched in 2019, aims to bring together researchers from diverse disciplines to collaborate on and expedite solutions to outstanding societal problems. Every year the Convergence Accelerator program accepts proposals from the community to identify Convergence Accelerator tracks for the next year. The NSF then funds workshops on some of these research tracks to allow these ideas to be fleshed out among researchers from various backgrounds. The […]
