This free online event offers keynotes and selected presentations from the Faculty Summit on future trends in computer science research. This year’s event, which focuses on Artificial Intelligence, includes former Computing Community Consortium (CCC) Council Member and now Microsoft Research Managing Director, Eric Horvitz. The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), has named Robert (“Bobby”) Schnabel executive director and CEO effective November 1, 2015. Schnabel joins ACM after eight years as professor and dean of the School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Mathematics, Schnabel earned his Master’s degree and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University. He is also a former Computing Research Association (CRA) Board Member and co-chaired the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) Computing Innovation Fellowships (CI Fellows) 2014 workshop. On June 2, our new CCC Council member starting July 1st, Kevin Fu (Associate Professor, Sloan Research Fellow Computer Science and Engineering Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan) was one of the five witnesses to testify to the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs at a hearing on “The IRS Data Break: Steps to Protect Americans’ Personal Information.” Fu recommend the following to the committee: Encourage research collaboration between cybersecurity experts and social and behavioral science to carry out human subjects experiments that measure the risks and benefits of knowledge-based authentication. In April, the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) commissioned members of the privacy research community to generate a short report to help guide strategic thinking in this space.
