In August 2019 the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), released A 20-Year Community Roadmap for Artificial Intelligence Research in the US. The Roadmap is the output of a series of three workshops that were held in late 2018 and early 2019, with the goal of identifying challenges and opportunities to effectively inform future federal priorities, including future AI R&D Investments. The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Sifakis defined autonomy as the combination of five complementary functions – perception, reflection, goal management, planning, and self-awareness/adaption. CCC-led White Papers on the Science of Autonomy

The CCC has released eight white papers. The Toward a Science of Autonomy for Physical Systems white paper frames both the opportunities and challenges posed by autonomous physical systems in general.
