In May 2018, the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) hosted a workshop on quantum computing, titled Next Steps in Quantum Computing: Computer Science’s Role. The workshop brought together computer scientists – including computer architects, compiler experts, and programming wonks – with physicists and researchers from quantum computers. A workshop report was released in November, 2018. The workshop report is now available in a Japanese translation done by the Yoshi-aki Shimada of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) on their Qmedia website, which focuses on quantum technology. The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.
