Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

NIST Public Safety Communications Research Funding Opportunity

National Institute of Standards of Technology (NIST) Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) Division plans on releasing a Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) in the near future, called “NIST Public Safety Innovation Accelerator Program” (PSIAP FY17), for research and development grants and cooperative agreements. NIST Seeks Grant Proposals for Disaster Resilience Research Studies National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released a Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) on July 26, 2016 to help further President Obama’s April 2016 commitment to enhancing the nation’s built resilient infrastructure. This competition is designed to encourage research in the areas of windstorm impact reduction and structural performance, disaster and failure studies, wildland urban interface, and national earthquake hazards reduction. NIST Video Analytics in Public Safety (VAPS) Workshop

On June 6, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) will host the 2016 Video Analytics in Public Safety (VAPS) Workshop, a satellite workshop of the Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) Broadband Stakeholder Meeting on June 7-9.  The goal of the VAPS workshop will be to create an environment where technical stakeholders of all types can exchange knowledge, practices, needs, challenges, issues, and ideas to jointly identify the critical R&D, resources, standards, and collaboration vehicles and infrastructure to support the creation of a robust public safety video analytics R&D ecosystem. Global City Teams Challenge Expo- June 13-14, 2016

The 2016 Global City Teams Challenge (GCTC) Expo will take place in Austin, TX at the Austin Convention Center June 13-14, 2016. The Expo will showcase GCTC Action Clusters and will feature speakers and panelists on a wide range of smart city topics. The two-day event will include an exhibition space in which trade-show style booths will be made available to 2016 GCTC Action Clusters. Register Now for the Global City Teams Challenge Tech Jam

The registration for the Global City Teams Challenge Tech Jam (GCTC) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) campus in Gaithersburg, MD on March 22-23, 2016 is now open. The Tech Jam will provide opportunities for existing Action Clusters to present their project plans, discuss project measurements, and identify additional Action Cluster partners. It is also an opportunity for interested parties to create new Action Clusters. The first day of the Tech Jam will feature presentations by invited GCTC partners and smart city leaders, followed by the presentations from registered Action Clusters (i.e. GCTC teams). The Global City Teams Challenge Tech Jam date has been set! It will take place at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) campus in Gaithersburg, MD on March 22-23, 2016. The Tech Jam will provide opportunities for existing Action Clusters to present their project plans, discuss project measurements, and identify additional Action Cluster partners. NIST is also establishing an international technical public working group to help develop an “IoT-Enabled Smart City Framework” that will identify pivotal points of interoperability across the many existing and deployed architectures.
