The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is very pleased to announce the release of the final report in the workshop series on enabling research collaborations between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Operations Research (OR) experts. This workshop series, first proposed in 2020, recognized the significant progress made in Artificial Intelligence research in recent years, especially in areas such as machine learning. However, it also noted the advances in optimization and decision-making made within AI, areas where the deep expertise of Operations Research is invaluable. The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

CCC Releases the Artificial Intelligence/Operations Research Workshop II Report Out

In September of 2021, the CCC along with the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and ACM SIGAI, held the first AI/OR workshop virtually, during which they reviewed the current state of AI/OR research and developed a strategic vision for increased collaboration between the two fields. NSF Dear Colleague Letter: Disrupting Operations of Illicit Supply Networks
April 2nd, 2019 / in AI, Announcements, big science, NSF / by Khari DouglasThe National Science Foundation (NSF) has released a Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) calling for proposals “to the Operations Engineering program into operational methods to discover, disrupt and disable illicit supply networks,” such as those that enable human trafficking and the sale of illegal weapons, drugs, and animals. While this call is lead by the NSF’s Engineering Directorate, proposals will require expertise in social and computational science and the DCL includes NSF’s Directorates for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) and Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE).
