Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Announcement from NSF/SHF: New funding opportunity Principles and Practice of Scalable Systems (PPoSS)

NSF logoThe following is an announcement from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Software and Hardware Foundations Program Directors Nina Amla, Anindya Banerjee, and Sol Greenspan announcing an up to $87M (over several years) new funding opportunity called Principles and Practice of Scalable Systems (PPoSS).  The solicitation cites many articles, including the Computing Community Consortium‘s 2012″21st Century Computer Architecture,”  as examples that “have outlined the need for computational systems that enable emerging, large-scale applications without the benefit of Dennard scaling (the “post-Moore’s Law” era).”

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to wish you a very happy new year!

New Program Announcement: The Principles and Practice of Scalable Systems (PPoSS) program is to support a community of researchers who will work symbiotically across the multiple disciplines above to perform basic research on scalability of modern applications, systems, and toolchains. The intent is that these efforts will foster the development of principles that lead to rigorous and reproducible artifacts for the design and implementation of large-scale systems and applications across the full hardware/software stack. These principles and methodologies should simultaneously provide guarantees on correctness and accuracy, robustness, and security and privacy of systems, applications, and toolchains. Importantly, as described below, PPoSS specifically seeks to fund projects that span the entire hardware/software stack and will lay the groundwork for sustainable approaches for engineering highly performant, scalable, and robust computing applications.

Deadlines

  • March 30, 2020: Planning grants only
  • January 25, 2021: Planning grants and LARGE grants

Please see the solicitation for more details.
