In April 2023, the National Science Foundation (NSF) published a Request for Information (RFI) to inform the development of a roadmap for the recently established Technology, Innovations, and Partnerships (TIP) Directorate. This roadmap will help guide TIP’s investments in translational use-inspired research to maintain US competitiveness in scientific research.   The Computing Research Association (CRA) submitted two responses: a joint response  from the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) and CRA’s Government Affairs Committee (GAC) and another from CRA-Industry (CRA-I). Continuing in our AAAS panel recaps, the CCC hosted a panel titled, “Sustaining Computing Research Communities in a Hybrid World”. The panelists were Brent Hecht (Microsoft), Richard Ladner (University of Washington), and Cristina Videira Lopes (University of California, Irvine), and the panel was moderated by Sujata Banerjee (VMware).   During the hybrid 2023 AAAS conference, there were many issues with virtual capability, culminating in an announcement on the morning of the second day that the organizers made the decision to shift to an in-person only conference. The CCC just released the 2nd Report Out in the three part Artificial Intelligence/Operations Research Visioning Workshop series. In September of 2021, the CCC along with the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and ACM SIGAI, held the first AI/OR workshop virtually, during which they reviewed the current state of AI/OR research and developed a strategic vision for increased collaboration between the two fields.
