Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

CSGrad4US: Third Year Call for NSF Fellowship Opportunity for CS Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree Holders to Return for Ph.D.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Directorate recently announced that applications are now being accepted for the third year of the CSGrad4US Graduate Fellowship program. The 3-year fellowships support new Ph.D. students pursuing their degree in a CISE field which includes programs in Computer Science, Computer and Information Sciences, and Computer Engineering. This program has already changed the lives of 78 people, with 16 participants from Cohort 1 now attending CISE PhD programs and 62 participants from Cohort 2 receiving admissions offers from PhD programs this spring! NSF Program Solicitation: Cyberinfrastructure Technology Acceleration Pathway (CITAP)

The National Science Foundation has announced a new solicitation, Cyberinfrastructure Technology Acceleration Pathway (CITAP), for proposals that aim to accelerate the translation of cyberinfrastructure research to the market ready products in order to bolster the cyberinfrastructure ecosystem. The award is $10,000,000 for a period of performance of up to five years. Kunle Olukotun Receives ACM – IEEE CS Eckert-Mauchly Award

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the IEEE Computer Society announced Kunle Olukotun, a Professor at Stanford University and former Computing Community Consortium (CCC) workshop organizer, as the recipient of the 2023 ACM-IEEE CS Eckert-Mauchly Award for contributions and leadership in the development of parallel systems. The Eckert-Mauchly Award is known as the computer architecture community’s most prestigious award. It is co-sponsored by ACM and the IEEE Computer Society and comes with a $5,000 prize. The CCC Announces New Council Members for 2023

The Computing Research Association (CRA), in consultation with the National Science Foundation (NSF), has appointed five new members to the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) Council:  Kevin Butler, University of Florida Daniel Rockmore, Dartmouth College Julie Shah, Massachusetts Institute of Technology  Michela Taufer, University of Tennessee, Knoxville Adam Wierman, California Institute of Technology Beginning July 1, the new members will each serve three-year terms. The CCC Council is composed of 23 members who have expertise in diverse areas of computing. Former CCC Council Member, Kevin Fu, Appointed to White House PCAST Working Group

The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) recently created a working group on physical resilience. The working group is made up of cyber-security experts from across academia, government and industry with the intent to identify research areas and possible solutions, as well as, advance current approaches to bolstering cyber-physical resilience.  Among the new working group members is former Computing Community Consortium (CCC) Council Member Kevin Fu.
