Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

NSF Accepting Nominations for the 2023 Alan T. Waterman Award

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is now accepting nominations for the 2023 Alan T. Waterman Award. NSF’s highest honor for early-career researchers, the annual award recognizes exceptional individual achievement in any field of science or engineering supported by NSF.  “The Alan T. Kunle Olukotun Receives ACM – IEEE CS Eckert-Mauchly Award

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the IEEE Computer Society announced Kunle Olukotun, a Professor at Stanford University and former Computing Community Consortium (CCC) workshop organizer, as the recipient of the 2023 ACM-IEEE CS Eckert-Mauchly Award for contributions and leadership in the development of parallel systems. The Eckert-Mauchly Award is known as the computer architecture community’s most prestigious award. It is co-sponsored by ACM and the IEEE Computer Society and comes with a $5,000 prize. American Academy of Arts and Science New Members

The American Academy of Arts and Science (AAAS) recently announced 269 new members elected to the academy. Among them are nine new members under the “computer science” category, including several that have worked closely with the Computing Research Association, CRA-Widening Participation, and  Computing Community Consortium in the past.  The Academy is an honorary society that recognizes outstanding individuals across all disciplines, perspectives, and professions. AAAI Announces Their Newly Elected Class of 2023 Fellows

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) just announced their new class of 2023 Fellows. AAAI is a nonprofit that aims to advance and promote research in, and the responsible use of, artificial intelligence. Each year, AAAI asks the community to nominate members of the community that have made “significant, sustained contributions to the field of artificial intelligence” for the Fellows program. Fellows are selected by a Fellows Selection Committee comprising nine current Fellows, and chaired by the Past President of AAAI.
