Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

December 14th, 2015 / in Announcements / by Khari Douglas

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has announced that it will fund the development of three co-robots, or robots that work cooperatively with people, as part of its fourth year of participation in the National Robotics Initiative (NRI). In addition to the NIH, the National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Defense are supporting the development of co-robots. The three innovative co-robots being supported by NIH are: 1. A four-legged robotic smart-walker designed to help improve the mobility and quality of life of the elderly being developed by Dr. Xiangrong Shen at the University of Alabama. The robot has two […]

Applications Open for Blue Waters Graduate Fellowships

December 10th, 2015 / in Announcements, NSF, Research News / by Helen Wright

The Blue Waters Graduate Fellowship Program lets graduate students from across the country immerse themselves in a year of focused high-performance computing (HPC) and data-intensive research using the Blue Waters supercomputer to accelerate their research. This unique program, funded by the National Science Foundation, is designed to support PhD students engaged in a program of study and research that is directly relevant to the use of Blue Waters as the fellowship provides up to 50,000 node-hours on the Blue Waters system. Blue Waters is a truly extraordinary supercomputer used by researchers across the country to gain new understanding of how viruses attack our bodies, the formation of galaxies and of […]

Nominations Sought for New CCC Council Members

December 9th, 2015 / in Announcements, CCC / by Helen Wright

The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is charged with catalyzing and empowering the U.S. computing research community to articulate and advance major research directions for the field. To do so, the CCC needs truly visionary leaders — people with great ideas, sound judgment, and the willingness to work hard to see things to completion. Please help the computing community by nominating such people for the Council. Established in 2006 through a cooperative agreement between the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Computing Research Association (CRA) — representing over 220 North American academic departments, industrial research labs, and professional societies with computing research interests, the CCC provides a voice for the national computing […]

The CCC and Big Data Regional Hubs’ Industry-Academic Collaboration

November 30th, 2015 / in Announcements, CCC / by Khari Douglas

Today the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) announces the launch of an Industry-Academic Collaboration with the partnership of the Big Data Regional Innovation Hubs (BD Hubs). The goal of this program is to catalyze and foster partnerships between industry and academic research by creating mechanisms for early career researchers in academia and industry representatives to interact and to explore ways to work together. This program would enable shared learning and perspectives, access to problems and data, career training, and opportunities for long term partnerships. The Big Data Regional Innovation Hubs are a set of four groups divided by region; Midwest, West, South and North East sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Computer […]
