Computing Community Consortium Blog
The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Announcing the 2021 Computing Innovation Fellows
July 22nd, 2021 / in Announcements, CCC, CIFellows, CRA, NSF, research horizons, Research News / by Helen WrightThis past spring, the Computing Research Association (CRA) and its Computing Community Consortium (CCC) announced funding for a cohort of Computing Innovation Fellows (CIFellows) for 2021, with strong support from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The program sponsors two-year postdoctoral research positions in computing, as well as career development and cohort building activities, to provide a career-enhancing bridge experience for recent Ph.D. graduates. The program aims to address the continued disruption in hiring practices at academic institutions due to COVID-19. This effort was inspired by the CRA/CCC’s NSF-funded Computing Innovation Fellows Programs with cohorts starting 2009, 2010, and 2011, CRA’s Best Practices Memo on Computer Science Postdocs, and the Computing […]

NSF DCL: Opportunities for Collaboration between CISE and SBE Researchers
June 29th, 2021 / in Announcements, CRA / by Helen WrightThe computer and information science and engineering (CISE) fields can benefit greatly from collaborations with the social, behavioral, and economic science (SBE) fields. Systems that make our lives easier—such as autonomous vehicles, wearables, intelligent agents, electronic health records, and telepresence robots—are all socio-technical systems. As stated in a recent National Science Foundation (NSF) report on Harnessing the Computational and Social Sciences to Solve Critical Societal Problems from a May 2020 roundtable, “Workplace relationships, media markets, health delivery systems, and criminal justice organizations are all increasingly characterized by a complex mixture of human actors and institutions on the one hand, and digital platforms and algorithms on the other hand. Efforts to […]
