Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Reminder to Submit Feedback on the CRA’s Committee Responses to the NSF Request for Information on the new Technology, Innovations, and Partnerships (TIP) Directorate

August 17th, 2023 / in CCC, CRA-I, Government Affairs / by Catherine Gill

In April 2023, the National Science Foundation (NSF) published a Request for Information (RFI) to inform the development of a roadmap for the recently established Technology, Innovations, and Partnerships (TIP) Directorate, and the Computing Research Association (CRA) submitted two responses. The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) and CRA’s Government Affairs Committee (GAC) submitted a joint response and CRA-Industry (CRA-I) submitted a separate response. The joint CCC/GAC  response can be viewed here and the CRA-I response can be viewed here.   We are interested in hearing your feedback on our RFI responses and your thoughts on TIP, in general. If you have any comments or feedback on these responses, please share them […]

Best Practices on Using the Cloud for Computing Research Report Released

July 6th, 2022 / in CCC, CRA-I / by Maddy Hunter

Written by Helen Wright and originally posted on the CRA Bulletin Cloud computing has emerged as critical infrastructure for most enterprises worldwide and has become essential for computing research. It has introduced a revolutionary model in which computing resources can be used to store, manage, process, and share data thereby enabling novel workloads and efficiencies of scale. This is in contrast to the traditional model of enterprises relying entirely on acquiring and maintaining in-house local servers and personal computers.  The Computing Research Association‘s newest committee, Computing Research Association-Industry (CRA-Industry), held its first workshop organized by Vivek Sarkar (Georgia Tech) and Fatma Özcan (Google) on Best Practices on Using the Cloud […]

Building Stronger Regional Academia-Industry-Government Computing Research Partnerships

June 6th, 2022 / in Announcements, CRA-I, Uncategorized / by Maddy Hunter

Written by Helen Wright, CRA-Industry In April 2022, CRA-Industry held its third roundtable event focused on Building Stronger Regional Academia-Industry-Government Computing Research Partnerships. The purpose of this roundtable was to convene partners across academia, industry, and government to understand successful approaches and to discuss the value of partnerships and best practices. The session was moderated by two members of the CRA-Industry steering committee: Mary Hall (University of Utah) and Ben Zorn (Microsoft). The panelists were Erwin Gianchandani (National Science Foundation), Charles Isbell (Georgia Institute of Technology), Greg King (Georgia Institute of Technology), and Phyllis Schneck (Northrop Grumman). In order to pinpoint success and call out specific interactions, the moderators decided […]

CRA-I: Virtual Roundtable on Building Stronger Regional Academia-Industry-Government Computing Research Partnerships

April 4th, 2022 / in Announcements, CRA, CRA-I / by Maddy Hunter

Written by CRA-I Senior Program Associate Helen Wright The Computing Research Association-Industry Committee is delighted to announce an upcoming virtual Roundtable on Building Stronger Regional Academia-Industry-Government Computing Research Partnerships on Wednesday, April 27th from 3:00-4:30 PM ET.  Regional hotspots for innovative and high impact computing research, including the Boston area and Silicon Valley, are iconic. But how did these regions develop as they did and what are key elements in the collaboration between academia, industry, and government that make them successful? In this roundtable, CRA-Industry will convene computing research partners across academia, industry, and government from Atlanta, Georgia to understand elements of successful approaches and to discuss the value of […]

Community Response to RFI on Incentives, Infrastructure, and Research and Development Needs To Support a Strong Domestic Semiconductor Industry
