In honor of Women’s History Month, the National Science Foundation’s Office of Legislative and Public Affairs (NSF OLPA) put together a Distinguished Lecture entitled “Reflection and Vision: Women in Computing Share Insights on STEM”. Moderated by current NSF Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Assistant Director, Margaret Martonosi, the lecture featured two past NSF CISE ADs Ruzena Bajcsy, and Jeannette Wing. The Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) National Coordination Office (NCO) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) recently released a request for information (RFI) on Federal Priorities for Information Integrity Research and Development. Originally posted on the Computing Research Policy Blog by Brian Mosley Yesterday the Director of the National Science Foundation, Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan, formally announced the establishment of the Directorate for Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships, or TIP. This is the first new NSF directorate established in more than 30 years. This move came about because of the passage of the Fiscal Year 2022 Omnibus appropriations bill by Congress last week, which stipulated that NSF was authorized to establish this new directorate. As technology advances and becomes an increasingly ubiquitous aspect of everyday life, researchers and the world at large must consider ways to minimize negative effects caused by computing to ensure sustainable development. A large area of concern is environmental impacts, including computing’s contributions to climate change.
