Computing Community Consortium Blog
The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

December 17th, 2021 / in Announcements, CRA / by Shar SteedNominations Sought for New CCC Council Members
December 16th, 2021 / in Announcements, CCC / by Khari DouglasThe Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is charged with enabling the pursuit of innovative, high-impact computing research that aligns with pressing national and global challenges. Established in 2006 through a cooperative agreement between the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Computing Research Association (CRA), the CCC provides a voice for the national computing research community, facilitating the development of a bold, multi-themed vision for computing research and communicating that vision to a wide range of stakeholders. To fulfill its mission, the CCC seeks visionary leaders — people with great ideas, sound judgment, and the willingness to work collaboratively to see things through to completion. The Council is composed of 20 […]
Call for Proposals: Creating Visions for Computing Research
December 15th, 2021 / in Announcements, call for papers, CCC / by Khari DouglasThe mission of Computing Research Association’s (CRA) Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to enable the pursuit of innovative, high-impact research that aligns with pressing national and global challenges. In accordance with the mission, the CCC is issuing a new call for proposals for visioning activities that will catalyze innovative research at the frontiers of computing. Successful activities will articulate new research visions, galvanize community interest in those visions, mobilize support for those visions from the computing research community, government leaders, and funding agencies, and encourage broader segments of society to participate in computing research and education. This guide shares further insight about the visioning process, from idea conception through program […]
US and UK to Partner on Prize Challenges to Advance Privacy-Enhancing Technologies
December 14th, 2021 / in NSF, Privacy, research horizons, Research News / by Maddy HunterThe US and United Kingdom (UK) will collaborate on a series of innovation prize challenges to catalyze research and advancements related to privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs). These technologies give the user greater control over the data being processed to protect personal information and intellectual property. The aim of the prize challenge is to bring together the top minds in both countries to encourage and facilitate the adoption of PETs. As a large problem area and growing concern among scientists, both countries heavily invested in privacy-enhancing technologies over the past decade. PETs are already used to address a number of societal problems from Covid-19 contact tracing to protecting online banking transactions. This […]
Mechanism Design for Improving Hardware Security – Call for White Papers and Orientation Webinar
December 13th, 2021 / in Announcements, call for papers, CCC, Security / by Khari DouglasThe Computing Community Consortium (CCC) will hold a visioning workshop on Mechanism Design for Improving Hardware Security during the summer of 2022 (exact date and location TBD). We seek short white papers to help create the agenda for the workshop and select attendees. From election security to critical health applications, trustworthy hardware is the bedrock of a modern free and healthy society. Once niche and arcane, the field of hardware security has recently become one of the most pressing issues in cybersecurity. Microarchitectural side channel attacks like Spectre and Meltdown have shown how pervasive, dangerous, and hard-to-fix a hardware attack could be; integrity attacks such as Rowhammer and CLKSCREW show […]
Upcoming Deadline for NSF’s Broadening Participation in Computing Proposals
December 10th, 2021 / in Announcements, call for papers, NSF, pipeline, Research News / by Maddy HunterThe upcoming deadline to submit proposals for the National Science Foundation’s Broadening Participation in Computing program (BPC) is January 20th, 2021. The BPC program aims to significantly increase the number of U.S. citizens and permanent residents receiving post-secondary degrees in the computer and information science and engineering (CISE) disciplines, and to encourage participation of other groups underrepresented in the CISE disciplines. Two funding opportunities under this program are Supplements for BPC Plans and BPC Demonstration Projects. Supplements for BPC Plans PIs with active Medium and Large CISE Core programs awards funded in the last three years (specifically pursuant to solicitations NSF 20-591, 19-589. 18-569, 18-568, and 18-570) are invited to […]
