Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

Call for Nominations: The National Medal of Science

The National Science Foundation is currently seeking nominations for the National Medal of Science (NMS), the highest recognition the nation can bestow on scientists and engineers. In 1959, the 86th Congress established the NMS as a Presidential Award, given to individuals “deserving of special recognition by reason of their outstanding contributions to knowledge in the physical, biological, mathematical, or engineering sciences.” The award has since been expanded to include social and behavioral scientists.  A committee of scientists and engineers appointed by the President evaluate the nominees taking into consideration scientific and engineering achievement along with broader impacts in promoting scientific advancements and in societal benefits. American Association for the Advancement of Science Annual Meeting 2022

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is the world’s largest multidisciplinary scientific society dedicated to the advancement of science for societal good. Each year AAAS holds an Annual Meeting featuring lectures, flash talk sessions, e-poster presentations and international exhibit hall to bring together experts form a broad range of disciplines to discuss new research and developments in science, technology and policy. Congratulations to Newly Elevated IEEE Fellows

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) recently announced the 2022 newly elevated Fellows. Among them are two individuals involved with the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) – Sujata Banerjee and Tim Sherwood. Sujata Banerjee for leadership in programmable and energy efficient networks CCC Council and Executive Committee Member       Tim Sherwood for contributions to computer system security and performance analysis Co-Organizer of the upcoming CCC workshop on Mechanism Design for Hardware Security.       Also among the new elevated Fellows were Behçet Açikmeşe and Brian Blake who have been involved in Computing Research Association activities. NITRD 30th Anniversary Commemoration

On Thursday, December 2nd, a virtual celebratory event was held for the 30th anniversary of the  Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) program. The event was organized by NITRD National Coordination Office (NCO) with support from Computing Research Association’s Computing Community Consortium (CCC) to highlight and reflect on the impact federal investment in the network information technology research and development has had on society over the past three decades.
